PVD and DLC coatings for Automotive and Transportation

Improving performance, reducing consumption, offering new design solutions looking to the future of the mobility sector. It is the path through which the advanced characteristics of our coatings are revealed.

Main benefits

Performance improvement

Applied to engine components, our PVD and PaCVD (DLC) coatings reduce the friction of moving parts and improve vehicle performance.

Weight and consumption reduction

Our anti-wear treatments improve the hardness of the surfaces and allow the use of lighter alloys, a decisive benefit for obtaining significant reductions in weight and operating consumption, both in the case of traditional propulsion and electric motors.

Reduction of polluting emissions

Reduction of the friction coefficient and lower weight of the powertrain components are the two factors that contribute to significantly lower fuel and lubricant consumption, consequently reducing polluting emissions.

IATF 16949 certification

Our continuous commitment to guaranteeing high quality solutions is confirmed by the IATF 16949 certification, current legislation for automotive production.

Interior design

New design projects focus on style, personalization and multisensory experience through lights, music, screens, materials and colors. PVD coatings applied to the details of the doors, dashboard, gearbox or audio system offer new colors and elegant finishes. PVD coatings can be deposited on all types of material, from metal to plastics, from glass to ceramics.

Green technology

Interest in vacuum metallization technologies is also growing due to their very low environmental impact: they can replace more polluting common treatments.

Surprising, advanced. These are the automotive applications that a coating can make qualitatively superior.

Traditional and new generation engines

Every single component of the beating heart of the vehicle must work perfectly. PVD coatings and DLC in particular significantly reduce friction and wear on piston pins, rocker arms, injector pins, camshafts, valves, gears and many other elements of traditional and plug-in hybrid engines.

Electric motors have fewer components, as is the case with gears. However, they need a higher resistance to mechanical fatigue and a longer duration over time as the number of revolutions of the electric motor is decidedly higher than that of the internal combustion engine. A favorable premise for the use of coatings in this field.

On the very promising hydrogen market, technologies are not yet mature but it is reasonable to think that in that area our treatments will play an important role in all wear components and in those of hydrogen transformation.

Transmissions

Our surface treatments increase the resistance to abrasion, corrosion and wear of transmission components such as straight gears, helical, bevel gears, pulleys and chains.

Brake systems

Our solutions for brake pistons and brake discs are used to contain wear and cold adhesion phenomena.

Steering and suspension

PVD-coated suspension and steering components are extremely durable and more performing, providing excellent driving comfort.

Interior design

The technological evolution of vehicles, both in engines and in terms of “smart & connected” vehicles, goes hand in hand with the evolution of design.
Our Design collection offers a range of metallic colors of great effect combined with excellent technical characteristics of resistance. Applicable on all types of materials, from plastic to light alloys, from glass to wood, they allow you to experiment with new materials and finishes. They are also a safe solution to replace more polluting common treatments, as the vacuum technique does not use baths or solvents.

Racing

In racing, the purpose of the coatings coincides with the search for maximum performance. State-of-the-art materials are tested and we coat rocker arms, pistons, piston rings, piston pins, camshafts, crankshafts, gearboxes, cascade gears, connecting rods and valves to reduce friction and maximize performance, containing consumption at the same time.

Other means of transport

The goal of reducing fuel consumption and emissions from engines with all related problems is now transversal to all means of transport.
Our coatings and the DLC in particular applied on the wear and sliding components of motorcyclist, agricultural, marine or earth-moving machinery engines make it possible to meet these needs.
With the increased diffusion of Reach and Rohs environmental regulations related to chrome plating, interest in replacement solutions for hydraulic systems is growing.
